Polmanter Tourist Park, St Ives, Cornwall

Our first guest, Craig David thought this site was "proper bo, I tell thee!" He couldn't believe the size of the pitch and loved the sea views. He agreed it was worth the extra quid a night for a multi service pitch, and was impressed that Sky TV was piped in through the aerial point. We couldn't drag him away from the music channels, even when we told him that his bird Kes may be in some danger, flying over the sites sports field where laser clay pigeon shooting was taking place as part of the nights entertainment. Bo Selecta!

Pictured here on her way to the camp's club karaoke night is our caravanning neighbour Diana Ross. She had opted to travel through the night, and had pitched initially on the vast late night arrivals field. Like most other campers she'd stayed on the site once before, last year in her trailer tent, but this year she had invested in a second hand Sprite Musketeer, after selling her tent in the Yellow Ads. She could be seen most mornings having a dip in the site's beautiful heated outdoor swimming pool, especially during the adults only session between 9 and 10am.

Pope John Paul just couldn't keep away, and was regularly outside the van playing Swingball with the kids, or sat in a deckchair cooling his feet in the paddling pool. Like us, he'd chosen his pitch for his Lunar Meteorite on the site's website and couldn't fault the campsite. He also found the facility of internet access in the sites reception, £1 for ten minutes extremely useful for checking his e-mails whilst holidaying at his favourite location.

Another Polmanter regular who popped to our van for a cuppa was the beautiful Joan Collins. She told us that she always returned to Polmanter as the toilet facilities were immaculate, and she dined most evenings in the sites bar, eating such delicacies as chips in a basket. She even helped out Uncle Simon, the children's entertainer, teach the assembled throng of children in the family lounge to spin plates. Well done Joan!

Pictured here outside their tent, is none other than Richard "twice nightly" Whiteley, and Carol Vordeman, taking their annual break from shooting the hugely entertaining and nail biting Calendar Countdown. Even though it was only a mile walk to the nearest beach, Richard and Carol opted to spend most of their holiday gazing into each others eyes outside their tent, only leaving the site to stock up on groceries at Tesco's, Penzance.

Guess who we bumped into outside the sites reception? Arnold Schwarzenegger had just finished his ironing in the camp's launderette and was just about to catch the regular bus service into St Ives to browse the many art galleries. He thought the 70p bus fare was extremely reasonable, but complained that the price of water colours in St Ives was rather steep, so instead he opted to purchase a few postcards which he planned to frame. It was Arnie's first time on Polmanter, but like us he loved this beautiful site. He even told the extremely helpful staff in reception just before he left, "I'll be back." So will we Arnold.
